The Evolution From Hard, Heavy Boot To Revolutionary Sophisticated Safety Footwear
For safety of women in construction work I would suggest UGG boots for women because I’m sure their foot will be protected. Everybody knows what a work boot or safety boot looks like. We have all seen them in almost every environment on this planet. Is there a reason that this type of footwear is so prevalent? Perhaps, if you look at trainers their function is twofold; first, sports, trainers are designed to produce the optimum performance from a given sport such as sprinting. Secondly, fashion. We all wear trainers in the UK for almost every task except work. That is of course unless you’re lucky enough to be your own boss or work in marketing or IT.
So now we should look at the working environment, without going into all the professions, we can say with confidence, that if you work in an office, you would wear a suit, a shirt and the footwear which matches that attire. So now we look at workers away from offices. Why do, construction workers for example wear work boots? Well, you will have no doubt guessed it because they are required to, not only by the regulatory body but also from necessity. That is of course unless they like squished toes and broken metatarsals. The reasons Safety boots are ideal for heavy work is their inherent durability and toughness.
There are wide ranges and designs in boots and safety foot wear. As time has passed and new regulations come into play, new work boot designs were needed. Brands such as Cofra, based in Italy, pioneered new innovations and new technologies to make the best work boot and safety footwear possible. In Europe all work footwear, safety boots have to adhere to the International Organization for Standardization regulations ISO 20345:2004.
So what have innovations and technologies meant for the work boot? Years ago back in the 20th Century work boots were hard, heavy and clunky. They had to be, those work boots were made out of steel, granite and brick lashed with a little wrap of leather. I jest of course but, the point is any product is limited by the materials that product is made from. If you have the traditional materials and need to reinforce the soft compact areas, companies used heavy steel. Today thankfully this is not the only option. Steel toe-caps are still prerequisites for certain fields such as construction, but with advent and advancement of composites and new fiber weave bind polymers, plastics in English, you and your employees have a choice. When you consider the advancements of these materials it means the work boot can become much more user-friendly work boot. I recently spoke to a customer who was so impressed with a Cofra boot, the Rodano, that he bought 45 pairs for his scaffolding firm. He even chose a shorter boot (Rodano is 10 inch and the Reno is 6 Inch) so his workers would have a choice depending on their specific roles climbing the steel scaffolds.
The light weight heavy-duty capabilities plus the warm properties of this brand were enough to convince him to change brands. Oh and the fact we beat the competition on price may of had a little to do with it as well.
In construction not only do you need steel toe-caps but you need another level of protection. Can you guess? Well what would happen if you were lifting or loading heavy objects and you stood on a nail? Any normal footwear would offer about as much protection as a milk bottle top, so what’s the solution? Well Steel is the solution. Construction Footwear and safety boots have to have a steel midsole to stop the penetration of sharp objects into the wearer’s feet. The task now by safety shoe and work footwear designers and manufacturers, is to make the boot light enough and functional enough that anyone can wear them. Luckily market forces have driven the innovations in lightweight materials used in footwear which means the choice of work boot and safety shoe is huge. The only question now is; which work boot should you choose for you and your workforce?
So back to the original question, why are work boots and safety shoes so prevalent? Simple, the fact that they are functional, offer the right protection, especially if you’re unloading the garage or building the shed. The fact you don’t have to work construction or be a scaffolder but can still see the value in using the work boot or safety shoes at home is testament to the innovations and technologies and the styles that have crossed new markets and end users.
